and the Artist
Iris Stripling has always had an interest in art which has been expressed in a variety of ways, but she has only been an active painter since 1989. Primarily self-taught, she has developed a realist style, working in several art media. She has pursued her interest in art by attending workshops conducted by various local and regional instructors.
Iris believes her talent is God-given and she strives to thank Him by portraying the beautiful detail work he has woven together to create our world. Her greatest hope is that viewers of her work will see this beauty and be touched by it.
An avid gardener for many years, Iris is inspired by all types of floral subjects and this is reflected in her work. Landscape, still life, animal and bird paintings and drawings are also among her achievements.
Iris has shown her work in several local art galleries, has exhibited in many juried art shows, and has received a number of awards. She works primarily in colored pencil, and watercolor. She has a unique feel for color, using it liberally in vibrant hues and soft pastels.
A member of Kent Valley Artists, Iris is also a Charter and Signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Her work has been featured in the following colored pencil art books: CP Treasures - Volume III, CP Hidden Treasures, Best of Colored Pencil 2, Best of Colored Pencil 3, Best of Colored Pencil 4, Creative Colored Pencil, and Colored Pencil Society Signature Showcase.
